Customer Review: Love, Love, Love . . .

. . . these dishes. Replacing an old set of Corelle Callaway (ivy pattern). Never really liked that pattern anyway, but at the time that those were purchased, Corelle didn't have the selection of patterns that they have today. The Callaway was my first set of Corelle dishes, so I'm familiar with their durability. We're building a new kitchen addition, so I just decided it was time for new dishes, glasses, everything. After about 15 years, give or take, the Callaway set was getting etched from thousands of runs through the dishwasher, and there was a plate here and there with a chip in the rim from causes unknown. The Callaways served us well. Dropped plates and bowls on our laminate flooring many, many times over the years, and the complete set is still intact (the laminate flooring, not so much, but that's getting replaced, too). Initially, made the mistake of purchasing a random brand of stoneware from a local brick & mortar, but the set turned out to have broken plates in it. Then I read that the unglazed bottom ring of stoneware dishes would leave scratches on the dining room table if used w/o placements. Plus, I didn't like the weight of the stoneware dishes. Too heavy for lifting multiple dishes in & out of the cupboard, and took up took much space, so I went back and looked at the selection of Corelle again. Local prices seemed steep. Low and behold, Amazon was cheaper, and free shipping to boot! The Simple Lines set arrived well-packed and completely intact. I absolutely love them! They're beautiful, and look a lot more elegant than the Callaway set. Yes, the lines aren't as jet black in person as they are in the picture. Some appear a bit "chalky," but that doesn't bother me. I still love this set. Some Corelle patterns often have that issue anyway. I love the square shape. I love the larger 8 3/4" salad plate, which works for a smaller meal, and is the perfect sized plate for young children. I love that the set comes with attractive, usable 12 oz. coffee mugs, instead of those tiny teacups that always get shoved to the back of the cupboard only to serve as dust magnets. I have a standard-sized microwave, and the 10 1/4" square dinner plate fits in there and goes around just fine -- I don't think that's going to be an issue, unless you have a compact microwave that just barely has enough room for the 10 1/4" round Corelle dinner plate. And yes, the generously sized coffee mugs are porcelain, rather than vitrelle like the dishes, but I like that just fine, too. These mugs will actually get used! I think the 22 oz. square bowls are bit larger than the bowls from a round set, too. I think the round bowls are 18 oz. I also splurged on Luigi Bormioli Black Swirl Tumblers Luigi Bormioli Black Swirl 18-ounce Beverage, Set of 4, which I found to be on the expensive side, but could not resist. And although I'm not fond of acrylic glassware, I got the Corelle Simple Lines 8 oz. juice glasses Corelle Coordinates Simple Lines 8-Ounce Acrylic Square Glasses, Set of 6, because their size and durability make them ideal if you have young children in the house. If you've been eyeing this set, get it! Do not hesitate!
