Customer Review: Durable, microwave proof, classic. BUT: small, mugs suck, flimsy feeling

We have a set of stoneware dishes that have begun overheating in the microwave. I'm told that his happens because over time moisture gets into the stoneware, and so when you put it in the microwave it heats up. When we take these dishes out of the microwave they are too hot to touch (yet the food is hardly warm) and they often crack and break. We've been considering switching to Corelle, so I bought one set to give it a try. Here are my thoughts:
- The dishes are thin yet incredibly durable. They're made of glass so they behave more like Pyrex in the microwave. They do get hot, but not unbearably so (and the food also gets hot, unlike the stoneware). So they are a huge WIN on this count. I've heard that they're also strong and won't break when dropped - haven't tried it yet. They really have solved our microwave problem.
- Because these things are so thin you can stack a LOT of them in a cabinet... and the dishwasher. When you have a family, that is really really nice. I've got 4 plates stacked in the same space that 2 of my stoneware plates use.
- The style is plain, classic, doesn't scream at you - it's utilitarian in a good way.
- The mugs aren't made from the same glass. They're not made by Corelle. They suck. Just toss them.
- All of the dishes are a little on the small side. Now, I'm on the fence about this. On the one hand, it helps a bit with portion control - you look like you have more food on your plate (or bowl) when its smaller. And since the design of these suckers hasn't changed in decades, it's a startling reminder of how much more food we're accustomed to putting on our plates. But, they feel small. I can't get more usual morning bowl of cereal in the bowl - I need 1.25 bowls of cereal, which is kind of annoying. The small plates are really small - they basically hold one thing and that's it (we often use small plates as dinner plates for the kids, and you just can't do that with these). The big plates are in between our stoneware small and large plates, so they're just not as large as what I'm used to for serving dinner. It's a fine size for serving the kids, and I'm still trying to like the smaller size, but it's not working for me yet. My husband (who eats larger portions than me) really doesn't like it at all.
- The dishes feel flimsy. I know they're strong and the glass finish is really great, but they are so light that they feel ... well, cheap. I am not sure I'd want to use them for entertaining.
So at the moment, we have 2 sets; our stoneware and the Corelle. We're using the Corelle to reheat stuff, but still using the stoneware most of the time, especially when we have guests. I'm not sure what we'll end up doing.

Plates and bowls are all made of Corelle's signature material, Vitrelle, which is created from three layers of glass that are compressed under extreme heat and laminated for strength. On the other hand, the mugs in this set are crafted of Corelle's stoneware, which is actually breakable and has a heavier feel than Vitrelle. For diners who recall Corelle patterns as being decorated with rather cutesy floral and fruit patterns, this simple, pure white pattern is sure to appeal to their modern preferences. Livingware plates and bowls sport a relaxed and rimless coupe shape and are all stackable for more efficient storage.
